What was the Second Great Awakening? Who were the leaders? What caused the Awakening? What effects did the awakening have on religion in the United States? The Second Great Awakening was a Christian renewal movement. The leader was Charles Grandison Finney. The cause was that some Americans felt that there was a strong need for religious reforms. An effect was that many new church members were women and African Americans.

The First Amendment guarantee’s freedom of religion. However, the latest FBI statistics has shown a rise in hate crimes (21% of reports were based on religion). Why do you think a rise in hate crimes has happened in recent years based on religion? How do you think these crimes can be prevented?
President Trump addressed the surge in anti-Semitic attacks across the country. The latest FBI statistics also show hate crimes against Muslims growing by more sixty percent. I believe that if they improve the freedom of religion and the country improves peace and respects other races and religions more, these hate crimes would not occur or would be diminished.

Hi Feysal,
ReplyDeleteAdding to what you said, I think that hate crimes can be prevented in a number of ways. People can show kindness to others, public awareness could be raised, befriend people that may seem excluded or setting a good example of respect. There are many more ways to prevent hate crimes. My opinions were influenced by this website-

Thanks for your information, Serena
Hello Feysal,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion because we have the Bill of Rights for a reason so we should use it in a manner that is supposed to be used. Also, what Serena said, public awareness could be raised because we are looked at as the land of the free but we can not be the land of the free if we all discriminate other people's religion and race. We as a nation are supposed to set a good example also like what Serena said and we all can stop these hate crimes and people would not have to be incarcerated because of it. Dear Feysal,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the fact that if the country improves peace and respects other races and religions more, hate crimes would not occur as much. Although America is said to have freedom of religion, many people are still looked down on because of where they are from. As much as we would love to deny it, racism still exists today, and is quite obvious when you look at the crime rates. However, if American people learn to respect all religions and races, this can improve. That is why I believe that public schools are important for kids to grow up surrounded by a diverse group of people. I believe that, if Americans work together, we can lower the graph in the link down to nearly zero, in both race and religion:

Author,
ReplyDeleteI kind of agree with your statement "I believe that if they improve the freedom of religion and the country improves peace and respects other races and religions more, these hate crimes would not occur or would be diminished." But the 1st amendment isn't just freedom of religion, it is also freedom to speech and self expression. I think that there is a lot of hate crime based on a person's religion, race, as well as sexual orientation. I do think Trump has given people who already had hatred in their hearts a chance to act out on it more because he is so negative and outspoken about his discrimination against other people. Dear bloggers,
ReplyDeleteI also agree if their was no judgement or criticism about what religion you are there wouldn’t be so much hate crimes.

Dear Feysal,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement on religion based attacks. In the time between 2016 and 2017, hate crimes rose higher and higher. The article that I had found stated, " There were 307 crimes against Muslims in 2016, up from 257 in 2015, which at the time was the highest number since the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks." As we know, President Trump uses religion and race crimes as a strong campaign strategy.

hi authors i disagree with this hate crimes and think that they are unreasonable. I dont think it is necessary to injure or kill others simply because they are different. Why kill others when they are different when all of our differences should unite us. I hope these crimes become fewer and fewer but honestly they look like they will get worst. sincerely yahaira
ReplyDeleteDear Authors
ReplyDeleteI believe these hate crimes based on religion are also based on race. Generaly a specific race is coralated with a specific religion so people who are racist may also be against various religions. The only true way for these things to be prevented is if people but their differences aside and understand that everyone is equally. Dear Feysal,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you said, but at the same time I feel even with the adjustments you reccomended I feel like people wouldn't actually follow them. There are always going to be people who judge based on differences and people who don't follow the law so I dont think hate crimes would be stopped. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-hatecrime-fbi/u-s-hate-crimes-rise-for-second-straight-year-fbi-idUSKBN1DD2BA
Dear, Feysal
ReplyDeleteI can see your point but I feel that more religious freedom will just create more hate in the world. People wouldn't be able to express their religious as they want to. They would express themselves but if people are being bullied then people would just keep to themselves.
